The Culina Group aims to double volumes going through its Dublin warehouse in the next year after announcing its use to distribute Müller Dairy products in north and south Ireland last month.

The deal with Müller is worth millions of pounds, said John McGinley, director of Culina SHS, an Irish joint venture between Culina and SHS Sales and Marketing. It is the biggest contract clinched since the ambient and chilled facility, which is based in Rathcoole, Dublin, opened last January, he said.

There is unlikely to be another contract of a similar size in the near future, said McGinley, but he added: "There are pieces of business that will amount to multi-million cases, so effectively you are talking about doubling throughput in the next year."

The Müller contract had boosted the Dublin warehouse's potential, said McGinley. "The facility operates in the same way as the others in the UK on a shared-user basis, so the more volumes there are going through, the better."
