More than two million jars of Gordon Ramsay’s Seriously Good premium Italian cooking sauces have been sold a year after launch, equating to sales of around £3.7m.

The sauces, which retail at around £1.85 for a 350g jar and are stocked at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Asda and The Co-Operative, are the result of a collaboration between Gordon Ramsay and Comic Relief, with “at least 10p" from every jar going to charity.

Given that £200,000 has been raised for charity to date, this equates to about 2m jars, and about £3.7m in sales.

4.8% share of premium Italian cooking sauces market in year one

The range, which is produced by Greencore at its Selby factory, has achieved a 4.8% share of the premium Italian cooking sauces market, which now accounts for 23% of the total Italian cooking sauce market, claimed a spokeswoman for the brand.

“This category has seen growth 15% year on year, with Seriously Good contributing to 66% of this growth in its first year.”

Sylvia Lowe, head of UK innovation at Comic Relief, said: “Raising over £200,000 is an amazing achievement for our first year of trading Seriously Good cooking sauces. We’ll make sure this helps make a real difference to vulnerable people here in the UK and some of the world’s poorest countries.”
