Cheese and speciality chilled food supplier Anthony Rowcliffe and Son has installed an IQ3 metal detector from Loma Systems to check its new range of artisan cheeses for Marks & Spencer.

All Anthony Rowcliffe cheeses are hand-cut with wire, so it was vital to have a machine sensitive enough to identify the smallest of metal contaminants. As the firm despatches and inspects products in trays, Loma Systems specified a carriage track reject conveyor to push reject trays down a separate conveyor system to keep them separate from inspected trays.

Anthony Rowcliffe uses a radio frequency identification tracking system with metal tags, which can set off metal detectors, possibly causing false rejects. Loma's variable frequency IQ3 Metal Detector can eliminate these signals, concentrating on detecting contaminates.

Cutting room supervisor, Kathy Pattenden says: "Operating the IQ3 has proved effortless. Having adhered to our strict code of practice, it has recognisably increased production efficiency."
