Cold cuts are often stored in flexible packages flushed with protective gas to ensure shelf-life. A leak in the packaging can enable gas to escape, which may result in a loss of nutrients, flavour, taste, texture or colour and invalidate the sell-by date.
To prevent this, the Sartorius FLI SealTester performs 100% seal testing, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual random sampling and the loss of products.
Leaky packages are removed by ejectors. The first measuring belt applies a pre-defined pressure to the package and the height of the package or bag under pressure is recorded. The second measuring belt exerts pressure on the package, which causes leaking air or gas to escape. The third measuring belt repeats the process of the first measuring belt. If the package is gas-tight, the measured results of the first and third belts are identical.
