New jobs created to meet demand for scampi
Young’s Seafood has created over 40 jobs at its Port Street factory in Annan, to meet the increasing demand for its standard breaded scampi.
The company said that the current economic climate had helped boost the sales of its standard line because “market dynamics have shifted in scampi from premium products to added value, as the price-conscious consumer focuses on the household budget”, said Steve Lidgett, operations director, at Young’s Seafood. Nine permanent positions have been created as well as 34 temporary jobs.
Its standard breaded scampi has always been produced in the UK and the rise in demand for this type of product, “together with the addition of a retailer brand contract means that we are in a position to recruit”, he added.
This trend has been apparent for some time but it has been amplified by the current economic conditions, Lidgett said.
He added that the recruitment process is under way to fill the fish processing jobs to scale up the Annan factory. To find out more about jobs in the food and drink industry see Foodmanjobs.
