Milk Link, the UK's largest producer of cheese, has installed a modern fully automated block-forming system at its Taw Valley Creamery in Devon. The £1.5M system will increase yields and deliver greater production efficiency.

Now double vacuum assembly allows the block-formers to fill while pressing the cheddar into shape, significantly improving the quality and yield of the cheese. As the block-forming system is adjustable to control different recipes, further block shape improvements will also be realised with this installation. It also incorporates an automated bag loading facility which reduces the need for manual bagging, allowing Milk Link to considerably improve performance at Taw Valley.

Brian Kerr, head of operations at Taw Valley, says: "The installation of this new generation block-forming system is a further demonstration of our commitment to employing cutting-edge dairy technology and will reinforce Taw Valley's position as the UK's leading cheese creamery. It will allow us to be more cost-effective while continuing to deliver award-winning, high quality cheese - something which Milk Link is dedicated to achieving."
