Specialist flexibles converter Camvac has been acquired by private investment company GIL, and is looking to the environment as well as high-barrier products for future success.

Former owner Amcor Flexibles sold the £20M turnover business to GIL in late September, saying that its output of coated, metallised and laminated barrier films did not meet with its strategic objectives. Products include its Camclear high-barrier vacuum-metallised aluminium oxide technology.

Md Steve Isherwood says: "Finishing and print is Amcor's key focus. This is the basic dichotomy we've struggled with. And we've never really fitted in with its global coverage requirements."

Looking ahead, he continues: "We've also got quite a strong demand for more ecologically sound structures that we will be responding to."
