Bakkavör claims it is working hard to find alternative jobs for the 107 workers affected by the imminent closure of its pasta factory in Scunthorpe on May 30.

In a statement issued to Food Manufacture, the company said it was “fully committed to doing everything possible to minimise its impact”. It added: “Bakkavör is working closely with the affected employees, focusing on finding them alternative roles at its other sites or with other employees in the region.”

The firm has opened a job shop advertising internal and external vacancies and has invited local businesses to attend a recruitment fair at the end of May. It has also brought in ‘Action for Employment’, which specialises in helping employees improve their interview skills, CV writing and other job skills.

Bakkavör said that it was closing the Scunthorpe factory because reduced volume requirements and raw material cost increases had brought it to an unsustainable loss-making position over the past 15 months.
