Witt Gas Techniques, has launched LabOx, a new non-invasive oxygen measurement analyser for use with modified atmosphere packaging (MAP).

LabOx is designed to measure the oxygen concentration in sealed packages, including blister packs, using multiple checks over a period of time. It measures oxygen levels using oxygen quenching of a fluorescent dye in the form of an OxyDot placed inside the bottle or package. It can be used with any transparent, translucent or semi-transparent package, bottle or container as long as the material can transmit light in the 470nm to 610nm blue wavelength range.

The system can be used for oxygen permeation, shelf life, oxidation and oxygen scavenger studies as well as MAP integrity. It allows packaging companies to monitor packages coming off the production line and in the distribution chain without the need to continually extract samples, or open or destroy bottles or sealed closures.

The OxyDot dye absorbs blue light and fluoresces red, allowing fast (under 0.1s) multiple measurements on the same package. It can detect up to 15 parts per billion in water or 0.03% by volume in gas.
