Schubert's new generation of automated packaging machines feature the latest vision systems which are specially designed to undertake a wider range of quality control checks. The company has developed scanners that can verify the pattern, colour and surface decoration of products, in addition to inspecting product height and position.
Schubert's robust and vibration-resistant incident light scanners provide a colour image of the product, which is then communicated to the packaging line's pick-and-place robots so that only the product that conforms is packed.
The scanners produce images with a resolution of 0.125mm per pixel. They are also designed to handle belt conveyor speeds of more than 30m a minute.
The vision systems can inspect almost any type of product made by the food and beverage industries. Typical applications include checking the amount of coating and decoration, identifying misshapen goods and sorting by label.
Walkers Snack Foods is using vision systems on its Schubert automated packaging lines for verifying the quality of crisp bags, ensuring any unidentified or incorrectly positioned bags are rejected.
