A new palletised containment system could save the glass bottling industry millions of pounds in breakages by improving pallet stability during transit prior to filling.

More than 1% of all tall packs of glass bottles collapse or are damaged during transit and never reach their destination. The Smartstak system from Loadhog is designed to prevent bottles from migrating outwards during transit and to prevent strapping from losing tension. It comprises the Smartpad and the Smartframe which work together to solve these two problems. It will allow 11 layers of glass per pallet as opposed to 8-10 layers which are currently standard.

Smartstak eliminates the need for plastic shrink wrap and horizontal banding used to stop bottles falling off the pallet in transit. More than 180,000 Smartpads are currently on rental to some of the UK's largest glass bottle manufacturers, moving 6M bottles a week without a single bottle being broken.
