Linpac Allibert has produced a reusable cheese box or crate specially designed for handling and maturing 20kg blocks of cheese. The design is a joint venture with Joseph Heler Cheese, one of the UK's largest cheese manufacturers.

The cheese box has a series of strategically-placed ventilation holes that ensure there is a constant airflow over the cheese. This allows even cooling to provide a constant temperature around the cheese. The crates can be used in temperatures of -30° to 40°C and will withstand washing temperatures of 85°C.

Manufactured in tough polypropylene, the crates are tough, long-lasting and cost- effective. Reinforced twin-walled corners allow full crates to be stacked up to five high. The crates allow cheese to be matured in situ for up to 12 months prior to shipment to the customer. The cheese can then be transported as a vacuum-packed product.

The cheese boxes do away with the cardboard box packaging commonly used within the cheese industry, thereby enabling manufacturers to comply with packaging waste regulations and save money. They can also be recycled at the end of their working life, making new crates out of old ones.
