Venting system helps cook frozen meals to perfection
The Amcor VentValve from Amcor Flexibles has been chosen by the Dutch company Vion for the launch of its frozen ready meals. It uses a valve which is integrated in the laminate and the thermoforming lidding is sealed on a polypropylene tray.
When the food is cooked, the positive pressure in the packaging ensures uniform heating of the dish and the valve controls the pressure to make sure the food is steamed to perfection. The consumer can put the pack directly from the freezer or refrigerator into the microwave or oven.
The venting system contributes to reducing carbon emissions by shortening cooking time in microwave ovens.
Since the laminates are printable, it is possible to save material by avoiding the additional costs of double-packaging such as outer cartons.
