Hygiene Group has introduced Maximiser, an electronic audit system to improve production line cleaning audits at United Biscuits' (UB's) McVitie's factory in Stockport.

A manual audit trail was previously used by UB. Inspection staff printed hard copies of completed cleaning schedules and then verified these by touring the plant.

To speed up the process, Hygiene Group commissioned software to electronically replicate the paperwork system, enabling work to be prioritised, scheduled, recorded as completed, audited and validated with digital signatures.

Maximiser is housed in a palm-held touch-screen unit and enables staff to conduct audits while carrying out everyday duties. Once back in the office, they can link it to a PC and print signed copies of completed reports.

"Our previous cleaning auditing method involved our inspection staff having to carry out a whole wad of inspection sheets around our very large plant," said Terry Willis, site manager at Stockport. "Maximiser overcomes this problem."
