Richmond Ice Cream, Sagegreen Consulting and Lutosa (UK) were among the winners of the British Frozen Food Federation’s (BFFF’s) 2007 annual awards, held at the Hilton Hotel, London.

Richmond Ice Cream won retail product of the year for its Marks & Spencer toffee honeycomb dairy ice cream. The product combines toffee dairy ice cream, toffee sauce and chocolate-covered honeycomb pieces.

Comments from judges, drawn from from the Craft Guild of Chefs, included “very tasty, would be a definite winner with the family for flavour” and “really creamy and flavourful, delicious”

Brian Young, director general of the BFFF, said no one should be surprised that an indulgent premium product had scooped the top award. He said frozen food consumers applauded advanced quality and it was something that was becoming more prevalent in every sector of the frozen food market.

Sagegreen and Lutosa jointly won catering product of the year, Sagegreen for its ‘Barilla’ Girasole de Gorgonzola and Lutosa for its ‘Brakes’ Gratin Dauphinois.

The judging panel pronounced that Sagegreen’s product was ideal for a variety of occasions, from café snacks to pub meals to family dining. The product enables operators to create hot, fresh authentic Italian dishes in under one minute. Judges’ comments included “nice product, good shape, good colour, good filling with a nice flavour” and “good size, tasty filling, very versatile and easy to use”

Lutosa’s product consists of individual slices of pre-fried potato, coated with a cream, cheese and garlic sauce. Comments included “great flavour - well seasoned, brilliant idea” and “great idea that works well, looks and tastes good”
