Confectioner Burnt Sugar claims consumers can buy its new 80g fudge bar without feeling guilty, because the product is made with 100% Fairtrade sugar.

Sourced from Fairtrade certified groups the West Kenyan Outgrowers Co-operative and the West Kenyan Sugar Company, Burnt Sugar is able to trace the provenance of its sugar and gives those who help to produce it a better quality of life. The West Kenyan community involved will benefit from funding for community projects such as Fairtrade bee-keeping, to give farmers an income out of season, and a credit system, to allow growers to borrow money without interest.

Sunil Patel, md of the West Kenyan Sugar Company, says: "Burnt Sugar is set to make a sterling contribution to the development of human capital and empowerment of people in West Kenya."
