The UK's second largest biscuit maker, Burton’s Foods, has been acquired by private equity firm Duke Street Capital for an undisclosed sum.

Burton's, which makes Jammie Dodgers, Wagon Wheels and Maryland Cookies, plus Cadbury’s biscuits (under licence), from four UK bakeries, was founded in the 1930s under the name of Burton’s Gold Medal Biscuits and was acquired by Associated British Foods in 1949.It was then sold to Hicks, Muse, Tate and Furst (now called HM Capital) in a £130M deal in 2000 and subsequently merged with the Horizon Biscuit Company.

It has since been courted by several private equity firms including 3i and Legal & General Ventures, and trade buyers such as Northern Foods and United Biscuits.

DSC is an independent private equity firm with offices in London and Paris. Recent transactions include the acquisitions of Superior Food Group, Buckingham Foods, Thomas Food Group and Food Partners.
