A powerful stationary cold water pressure washer has an unusual job at the Malton Bacon Factory, a major meat processing plant. The Nilfisk-ALTO UNO Booster automatically dispenses a black dye to stain all meat waste to ensure that it is clearly identified so that it cannot re-enter the food chain.

The Malton factory is part of the Grampian Country Food Group, producing a wide range of bacon and other popular cuts which are packed for the supermarket chains. Daily production waste fills two 20 tonne trailers and is taken away for incineration. The Malton plant needed an innovative and effective method of staining the waste.

The UNO Booster feeds 12 fixed overhead nozzles in the loading bay. The system operates automatically, drawing liquid dye into the spray system from a separate 50 gallon (227 litres) tank. The UNO Booster is programmed to run for 60 seconds every 15 minutes, ensuring that the dye reaches all the waste, which is loaded into the trailer via chutes.
