Rapid test kit for Salmonella gives results in 24 hours
Oxoid has extended its range of rapid tests for the detection of Salmonella in foods to include the DuPont Lateral Flow System test kit.
This simple-to-use kit is sensitive enough to detect one colony-forming unit (cfu) of Salmonella in a 25g food sample, with results in just 24h.
The kit is suitable for Salmonella screening in both large and small laboratories. The specifically designed enrichment medium allows cells to be cultured up in only five hours, and samples are ready to be tested, following a standard secondary enrichment phase, in just 24h.
The flow test strip is simply placed in a small sample of the enrichment broth. The sample then migrates along the test strip and, within 10 minutes, the result can be read. A control line demonstrates that the test has performed correctly whilst the appearance of a second test line indicates a positive result.
There are also test strips for Listeria and E.coli O157.
