Suppliers land Young's deals
Packaging machinery supplier T Freemantle is one of two companies to land a deal with seafood firm Young's Bluecrest.
Its pre-glued sleever has been installed on one line at the Humberstone Road, Grimsby site, for premium quality ready meals, packaged in heat sealed polyethylene terephthalate trays.
Meanwhile, Herbert Industrial - Young's existing auto pack line equipment supplier - netted the contract to upgrade all of its 95 product lines to C-fold wrap-around weigh price labelling.
Freemantle's pre-glued sleever was chosen for its simple and quick size change as well as its ability to handle a wide range of tray shapes and sleeve designs, says Young's projects manager, Ray Crome. In-line coding also virtually eliminated sleeve wastage.
Herbert Industrial's Flexiwrap tipped the supply scales in its favour because it could handle varying weights and cuts from 25 different fish and tidied up the pack presentation.
Installed over three weekends to meet retailer deadlines, Young's manufacturing controller Tam Muldoon, said the system, which can be run in catch-weight, fixed minimum weight or European Commission average weight modes, provided the ultimate in line flexibility.
