The Cheese Company, part of Milk Link, has opted for an energy efficient turn-key compressed air solution at its Lockerbie creamery. The installation will simultaneously provide compressed air to both the creamery and Arla Foods' new 150M litre dairy facility being built alongside it.

The facility incorporates a Boge SF220 frequency controlled screw compressor, and two Boge S220 fixed speed screw compressors complete with dryers, filtration and a Boge MCS Pro Plus energy management system.

The Cheese Company produces a range of Cheddars and British regional cheese for the retail, foodservice and ingredient sectors. Cheddars, half-fat Cheddar, Red Leicester and butter are all produced at the Lockerbie creamery. Compressed air is used at many stages of the cheese and butter making processes.

To expand the Lockerbie facility to accommodate the new Arla dairy all of the site's systems were reviewed.

Rod Challis, engineering manager at the Lockerbie site, says: "It was apparent that our original compressed air system would not be able to meet the air demands of the site's increased production."

Challis continues: "We therefore needed to install a new system that ensured we achieved the most economical and efficient use of compressed air regardless of peak or off-peak air demands or fluctuations in production levels."
