Newcomer stresses huge potential of UK thermoform market

The UK thermoforming market is so large and dynamic that no major European supplier can ignore it, according to Danish company Plus Pack.

So impressed is it with the growth in thermoforming for food, driven largely by the big retailers, that it has set up a UK sales operation for the first time.

Headed by Shawn Roberts, the company will target the bespoke end of the market, but also offers standard products.

With operations in Denmark and Belgium, Plus Pack says it is planning to double production capacity "over the next few years". Roberts adds: "Longer-term, the company would love to start producing in the UK, too."

Roberts has begun to build relationships with suppliers and distributors. But he believes some of the larger thermoformers take the market for granted. "Customers want to see people coming in with new ideas and a fresh attitude to service and quality," he says.

Plus Pack is a £63m turnover company, which produces foil packaging as well as plastics.
