A new contamination detection system designed to fill the gap that exists between traditional magnetic metal detectors and full featured X-ray imaging systems for use in food manufacture has been introduced by Thermo Electron Corporation.

The Goring Kerr EZx has the sensitivity to detect a variety of contaminants, including ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless steel particles. It is likely to find application on lines using new metallised film or foil packaging.

The system is usually installed immediately after fill and seal and, unlike other X-ray systems, has been engineered to operate in typical metal detection environments.

It is available in various aperture sizes and line heights and operates over a wide temperature range. It meets IP65 washdown requirements and is inherently safe, adhering to the strictest X-ray radiation standards.

Designed with metal detector users in mind, the EZx is very easy to learn and use. The built-in QuickLearn wizard enables it to be set-up for a new product in minutes. Once running, the display shows an intuitive red light/green light status monitor along with simple summary statistics.
