Liquid blending contractor Solutech has had a new Spiroflow mobile bulk bag discharger connected to an existing flexible screw conveyor, for use in sugar blending.

Winsford-based Solutech has won a contract for several 15t batches of sugar-related blends a week. The flexible screw conveyor is used to load one of the sugar components into a heated mixer/dissolver vessel. It is fed from bulk bags which, along with the conveyor, are mounted on a mobile frame so that it can be moved out of the way when not in use.

The design of the bulk bag discharger ensures that the sugar readily discharges. Because the inlet to the screw conveyor is a long narrow slot, a spiral agitator has been supplied within the discharger collection hopper to ensure a steady and reliable flow to the mixing vessel.

As the blending vessel is full of water at 75°C, vapour rises during the loading of the sugar. To overcome the problems that this could cause, a low pressure blower is fitted at the conveyor outlet to prevent vapour from entering.
