Looking to increase manufacturing capacity for its range of frozen and chilled meals supplied to the foodservice sector, The Authentic Curry Company has installed a second packing line.

To ensure its meals are free of foreign bodies, the company approached Eriez for a metal detector to be installed at the end of the packing line.

Eriez installed one of its 20C metal detectors with a sanitary stainless steel finish along with a conveyor. It is a high sensitivity detector with integral control for the installation of a belt.

Kay Armstrong from Eriez UK sales division says: “Frozen and chilled foods can be quite difficult because of the ‘product’ effect, where the food at certain temperatures can produce an electric current that is read as a metal object by the metal detector.” The equipment was customised to do the job.

The detector also has a memory function, which enables a number of different settings to be stored for different products.

The installation of an automated conveyor has also allowed the company to inkjet information directly on to the top of the packs of product as they pass down the line.
