Organic milk and cream products producer, Coombe Farm dairy in Crewkerne, Somerset, has replaced its manual standardisation equipment for regulating fat content in milk and cream with a Standomat system from Westfalia Separator.

The dairy, which is part of the AH Warren Trust, chose the Standomat because of its ability to offer cost savings through greater product control, minimal cream losses and operational flexibility.

Installed in-line after a separator, the Standomat offers fast and accurate regulation of the cream content through the Westfalia Separator Vario control system, which combines fat content measuring accuracy and a ‘no delay’ response from the throughput flow valves.

Julian Ings, operations director at Coombe Farm, says: “We already have Westfallia separators ... Purchasing the Standomat as well meant that we had a single service contract, minimising the number of service visits to site and reducing associated potential downtime and disruption.”

He added: “There have been other benefits too. Rather than batch mixing semi-skimmed milk and being tied to a specific capacity that has to be completed before use, with the Standomat the product is ready on a just-in-time basis.”
