Pooled samples cause a stir

New pooling method can test five food samples simultaneously for quicker results

A more cost efficient Pathatrix Pooling method has been developed by Matrix MicroScience to test for salmonella and listeria.

The method is able to maintain 100% traceability on all of the food samples involved. This means that five 50ml cups, each containing a different food sample, can be mixed together into a 250ml wet composite and tested to produce one overall result.

As the majority of companies find that 98% of results are negative, it saves time and labour costs to test five samples at once.

If the result is negative, then no further testing is required. If the test proves positive, then the samples can be separated and re-tested to identify which are positive.
