The MAG PixCell machine vision system is a materials handling and packaging machine concept developed for pick-and-place applications in the food industry.

Sales director Pentti Halonen says it is expected to find use where individual unpacked products need to be sorted, grouped, or stacked quickly prior to feeding into a packaging machine.

"The vision-controlled system allows conveyor tracking and on-line quality control ... Jobs previously considered only suitable for humans can be carried out by an intelligent robot cell," he says.

Master Automation Group (MAG) bases its products around the cell production concept. The combination of software and technology means that solutions can be created that are high capacity and fast. Some stacking applications have reached speeds of up to 18,000 picks per hour.

The PixCell comprises a single-arm robot or high-speed delta robot along with robot guidance vision software. Conveyors, safety devices, and other peripherals are included in order to ease installation on to a factory floor.
