Real-time data is needed to maximise operational effectiveness of equipment

Prepared foods producer Geest has gone live with a new real-time performance management (RPM) software system at its site at Sutton Bridge in Spalding, Lancs.

RPMs are designed to help manufacturers improve production effectiveness by enabling them to capture data which they can act on to maximise equipment performance. The system installed for Geest, called the Eventsengine, was developed by MVI Technology.

Geest, like other companies, is focusing on ways of reducing waste through improved overall equipment effectiveness and net machine efficiency, while also increasing productivity of labour. Prior to the introduction of Eventsengine, any measures of performance and analysis of productivity across the production process had been carried out manually by internal and external consultants. The problem was that the impact of daily human activity on the production line was not measured in any quantifiable way.

Eventsengine now provides a tangible, live measure of rate, yield and utilisation for the company, enabling Geest to fine tune its processes.

Brian McMonagle, manufacturing manager at Sutton Bridge says: “It’s the real-time performance management tool we’ve needed all along to optimise our processes and produce the levels of operational excellence which will drive our business forward.”
