Problems with stapled boxes has caused Drivers Pickle & Vinegar to specify an Endoline 221 case erector to handle boxes on its processing lines.

As the machine forms the boxes adhesive tape is used to seal the bottom and sides instead of staples. One case erector is used across two production lines -- pickled goods on one day; vinegar on the next. Up to 12 different sizes of box are used.

"We try to run only one size every day in order to ease operation," says Julian Bonser, sales manager at Drivers. "We did not set out to increase speed or throughput, merely to replace the manual stapling methods which were becoming a safety problem for staff and for customers.

However, the change from hand case erecting -- up to 3,000 boxes a day -- has freed up staff to work elsewhere on the production line."
