Westler Foods is increasing its prominence in the foodservice sector with the addition of new canned ready meals and the launch of canned fruit and vegetables.

The company has added Mexican Style Tuna, Coronation Tuna and Chicken Korma to its Multi Menu range of ambient ready meals, which also includes options such as Chilli Con Carne and Beef Curry. It says it has also improved the recipes of its Beef in Ale and Beef Steak Casserole.

Westler has also diversified with the launch of fruit and vegetables in 2.61kg catering size packs. Vegetables include red kidney beans, marrowfat peas, chickpeas and sliced jalapeno peppers, while prunes are the first fruit to be launched. They will be followed by a diverse range of fruit in the spring, says Westler.

Also new are reduced salt baked beans and mushy peas, which are part of the company's salt reduction plans. It has already reduced the salt content of its hot dogs and sausages, with its sausages for schools having a sodium content of 0.4%, below the government's long-term target of no more than 0.5%.
