Salt reduction in manufactured products continues apace with frozen and chilled food company Strathmore Foods the latest company to reformulate its range.

Strathmore says it has "significantly" reduced levels of salt across its Countryside range of products, which includes its Macaroni ready meal, Macaroni Pies, Haggis Bites and Haggis Pudding, which have had a 25% cut in their salt content, and its pie shells, which have had their salt content halved.

"Our efforts to reduce the amount of salt within several of our products is part of Strathmore's drive to offer healthier food options to our customers and, at the same time, balance this against not compromising on taste," says technical manager Marilyn Davidson.

The company, which makes more than 55 varieties of frozen and chilled products under three brands, is also reviewing where it can make salt reductions across the rest of its ranges, says Davidson.
