Product traceability is at the core of a new partnership which brings together Domino Printing Sciences and Omron Electronics.

The two companies have combined their expertise in barcoding and radio frequency identification (RFID) to create a strategic alliance to provide flexible and cost-effective methods of linking the two technologies to meet retailer demands for 100% reliable traceability systems

The Product Traceability System (PTS) will provide an audit of customers so that solutions can be matched to individual company needs. RFID systems will be available linked to quality, productivity, automation and track and trace systems throughout the factory.

"For example, the system assures 100% product compliance through the elimination of bad RF tag and barcode reads," explains Simon King, outer case coding director at Domino.

The non-contact RF tag apply and in-line digital print system are claimed to ensure total integrity of the barcode and the RFID tag by offering in-line human readable, barcoding and RFID in combination.

It is the separation of the RF tag from barcoded data -- with each independently readable -- and the human readable information, combined with non-contact application which really makes this approach quite different to others available.
