Workers at Boddingtons' Manchester brewery have renewed their fight to save the plant from closure, and 55 jobs, almost two years to the day after winning a first battle to save it.

InBev, formerly Interbrew, said the brewery was inefficient and it would switch production of draught beer to Preston and south Wales. Brewing of cask ale, which accounts for less than 10% of output, would stay in Manchester, at a Hyde brewery.

The Transport & General Workers Union said that nothing had changed since two years ago and that the move was another cynical move by a large brewer to sever ties with its heritage while still using it for marketing.
