Ingredients manufacturer Plant-Ex has expanded its production footprint after signing for a fourth unit at St. Mowden Park, Bristol.

This latest letting from the warehouse management firm will see Plant-Ex almost double its total footprint to 75,000sq ft.

The manufacturer will use the property to create a centre of excellence in product development and technical support, as well as increase the capacity of its flavour compounding and savoury flavours capabilities.

‘Vital to our expansion’

Giles Drewett, co-founder and managing director at Plant-Ex Ingredients, said: “Our partnership with St. Modwen has been vital to our expansion over the past 14 years, with the provision of modern, high-specification warehouse space allowing us to grow our headcount and crucially bring our engineering, innovation and quality control teams together in one place.”

St. Modwen worked with Plant-Ex since its formation in 2010 and supported its growth as a leading international, family-owned company specialising in the manufacture of natural colours, flavours and extracts used in food production.

Drewett formed Plant-Ex in a 2,500 sq ft unit at St. Modwen Park Avonmouth and has subsequently expanded at the park, employing more than 100 people across its business and generating annual revenues of about £25m.

St. Mowden Logistics senior development director Carys Allen added: “This latest letting highlights our well-established partnership with Plant-Ex and we are proud to have supported them from a small start-up to the successful international enterprise they are today.

“Throughout our partnership, we have listened to the needs of Giles and the team and look forward to continuing to deliver the space they need to facilitate their ongoing growth.”

St. Modwen Park Avonmouth provides 1.3m sq ft of warehouse space across 36 units. Located on Avonmouth Way & King West Lane, its had direct access to the M5/M49 junctions and its within 10 miles of Bristol City centre.

Meanwhile, recipe box company HelloFresh has opened a new distribution centre in Derby,​ creating 300 new jobs with more on their way as production ramps up.
