The tweet has since received 32,136 retweets and 13,450 favourites.

Betting website Ladbrokes joined in on the jokes, referencing Snickers current advertising campaign with its tweet: “GET SOME NUTS: Luis Suarez, have a Snickers you turn into a right diva when you're hungry!”

Snack on food not players

Chicken restaurant Nando’s also suggested Suarez try one of its dishes instead of snacking on football players.

Trident Gum, McDonald’s and Budweiser all also took to social media to promote their brands at Suarez’s expense.

“Chew Trident. Not soccer players,” the Mondelēz International-owned brand tweeted.

Football’s governing body Fifa has opened up disciplinary proceedings against Suarez, after the referee failed to see the incident and took no action.

If Fifa takes retrospective action the striker could be banned for 24 matches or two years.
