Sir Ken Morrison and Jamie Oliver make the Rich List

The list, published on Sunday May 18, ranks some of Britain’s wealthiest individuals and follows the publication of Super-Rich List​, featuring Britain’s top billionaires, published last week.

Sir Ken Morrison and family appeared at 110^th​ place on the list with net wealth of £900M, down by £105M on the previous year. The 82-year old former chairman of the Bradford-based supermarket is reported to have a £450M stake in the business.

The retailer made a loss of £176M last year, sparking speculation about a take-over bid.

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver together with wife Jools appeared at 396^th​ place in the list, with wealth of £240M, up by £90M on last year. Their fortune was attributed to food and media, reflecting the Essex chef’s rise to stardom after his TV series Naked Chef in 1999.

Cookbook sales total £10M​

Oliver’s cookbook sales total £10M, netting him £126M, making him Britain’s second-biggest best selling author, after Harry Potter creator JK Rowling.

Between Morrison and Oliver on the list was the early of Iveagh and the Guinness family in 117^th​ place on the list with wealth of £850M. Iveagh inherited the title and £62M in Guinness shares in 1992. While Guinness is now owned by drinks giant Diageo, Iveagh and the Guinness family retain a £200M stake in the business.

Another retailer appears in 188^th​ place on the list, Lord Sainsbury and family with wealth of £540M, down by £50M on last year. Sainsbury is reported to have a £300m stake in the retailer, valued at £35.9bn.

Sir David Samworth and family appear in equal 199^th​ place, with wealth of £500M, up by £10M. Pasty and pie firm Samworth Brothers delivered profit of £43M in 2012. The business, which makes Ginsters pasties, is valued at £450M.

The Warburton family also appear in equal 199^th​ place, also with wealth of £500M. The business is run by cousins Jonathan, the chairman, and Ross and Brett, executive directors. Last month Jonathan underlined Warburton’s commitment to new product development in an exclusive podcast interview​ with FoodManufacture.co.uk.

Brewing magnate Sir Douglas Myers was ranked 227^th​ in the list with wealth of £460M, up by £12M on the previous year. Myers – who was said to be fighting cancer – made his millions from the brewing industry, establishing the Lion Nathan operation.

Vivian Imerman, with £355M, was ranked at 269^th​ place in the Rich List. Imerman reportedly netted £776M from the sale of the canned food group Del Monte before selling the Scottish whisky business Whyte & Mackay.

Asian branded food​

Fakhruddin Suterwalla and family appeared in 273^rd​ place, with wealth of £350M, up by £10m on the previous year. Suterwalla made his fortune as a pioneer of Asian branded food in the UK.

Eric Herd and family was ranked in 338^th​ in the list with wealth of £277M, up by £24M on the previous year. Herd transformed the Cumbernauld meat business into Britain second biggest frozen food retailer.

Michael Cannon owes his £250M fortune – which rose by £10M last year – to the food and hospitality sectors. Cannon – who is ranked in 367^th​ place – bought and sold four pub chains before acquiring Fuddrickers, the US hamburger chain valued at £120M.

Not appearing on the Rich List this year are 2 Sisters Group founders Ranjit and Baljinder Borparan. Earlier this month the Birmingham Post Rich List 2014 estimated their wealth at £840M

Meanwhile, topping the list of Britain’s billionaires with food and drink industry connections were Galen, Hilary and George Weston and family, with a net wealth of £7.3bn, up by £650M. The Westons – Britain’s eleventh richest billionaires – owe their fortune partly to their interests in Associated British Foods (ABF).
