A singing lasagne has proved a hit with Waitrose customers as sales of Charlie Bigham’s ready meals have more than tripled as a result of the novelty dish, according to the retailer.

Waitrose said customers had been charmed by the innovative design from the posh ready meal company.

When opening the packaging of the limited edition meals, Marvin Gaye's seductive classic ‘Let's Get It On’ serenaded customers.

‘Money back guarantee’

Charlie Bigham's was so confident in the combination of Gaye's dulcet tones and their handmade ready meals for two that it offered a money back guarantee: “if you don’t get lucky between the sheets, you don't pay for your eats,” ​it claimed.

The singing meals were exclusively available in Waitrose Canary Wharf last week, on six of Charlie Bigham's most popular recipes including Lasagne, Fish Pie and Macaroni Cheese.

Charlie Bigham, founder of the company, said: “You don't need to have heard it through the grapevine to know that Valentine's Day is perfect for a quiet night in and a spot of romance. Wonderful food and music always set the tone and having already mastered great suppers for two, we thought we'd provide the added extra.

“There are few more seductive combinations than superb food and a bit of Marvin, so we're very confident that our money back guarantee will go unused!"
