Pinguin Foods treats plant walls with novel coating

Related tags Fruit

Pinguin Foods’s frozen vegetable and fruit processing facility at Roeselare in Belgium has undergone a refurbishment which has involved treatment of walls and panels with a special coating for refrigerator walls, which allows work to be carried out in situ without raising the temperature or removing foodstuff.

The solvent-free Polarcoat treatment from US company Smarttech is a wall coating that is specially developed to seal and protect refrigeration/freezer walls. It comes in white as a single component and requires no mixing. Applied by roller or brush, it dries to a smooth, high gloss finish and can be applied directly to cold, damp wall surfaces. It cures in about four hours.

Not only is it said to control corrosion and seal punctures, it also retards harmful bacteria growth.

Smarttech has set up an operation in the UK, which currently has products on trial with several household names, including two famous pub/restaurant operators as well as a national plant hire company and a well-known tyre and exhaust company.
