Tesco blamed a “manufacturing error” after recalling a batch of its Finest Crab & Chilli Linguine, which actually contained its Finest Spaghetti Carbonara.

The carbonara product contained milk, egg and pork which were not mentioned on the packaging of its Crab & Chilli Linguine.

In a statement, Tesco said: “We have been made aware by our supplier that due to a manufacturing error, a small number of Tesco Finest Spaghetti Carbonara products have been packed in Finest Crab & Chilli Linguine packaging.

“The Spaghetti Carbonara contains milk, egg and pork and as such product packed as Crab & Chilli Linguine will not have the correct ingredient or allergen information on the packaging.”

The product posed possible health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or egg. The recall applied to 350g packs of the product with a use-by date of April 5 2017.

Consumers with an allergy or intolerance were advised not to eat the affected product and instead return it to the store it was purchased from for a full refund.

Products from Asda and Nestlé

Meanwhile, labelling errors also sparked a number of other food and drink recalls over the past month, including products from Asda and Nestlé.

Asda recalled its Limited Edition Szechuan Chicken for not mentioning allergens on the label.

The product contained barley, making it a possible health risk for consumers with an allergy or intolerance to the ingredient.

Asda recalled all 400g packs of the Szechuan Chicken with a use-by date of April 29 2017.

The retailer apologised for any inconvenience caused and asked customers who had bought the product to return it to their nearest store for a full refund.

Undeclared nuts and peanuts forced the recall of Nestlé’s Kit Kat Original Milk Chocolate Bites Pouch Bag this month.

The 104g packs had been incorrectly packed with Peanut Butter Bites, according to Nestlé. Packs with the batch code 70720457V2 and a best before end date of December 2017 were included in the recall.

Incorrectly packed

Nestlé advised consumers to dispose of the contents of the pouch and send the empty pack to them to receive a full refund.

Incorrect use-by dates caused the recall of two of Bleikers Smokehouse’s products this month, its Cooked & Peeled Coldwater Prawns and Tiger Prawns.

The products were labelled with the use-by date of May 25 2017 instead of April 25 2017 and could have been eaten past the date by which they were safe to consume.

Bleikers’ recall applied to 180g packs of Cooked & Peeled Coldwater Prawns with the batch code 78M and 150g packs of Tiger Prawns with the batch code 78N.

Undeclared allergens also forced recalls for Hoo Hing, Interlink Direct, Fazals and Krunchi Foods. See the box below for a full list of products recalled this month.

Meanwhile, Morrisons has launched an investigation after customers found metal “pins” in green beans purchased from its stores.
