The Institute of Food Science and Technology’s Jubilee conference offered something for everyone involved in food production and research and painted a multi-coloured picture of the industry.

That’s the view of the IFST’s ceo Jon Poole in this exclusive video for FoodManufacture.co.uk.

“It’s been a pretty multi-coloured picture to be honest,” he added. “I think it’s been a really exciting day, we’ve seen talks and presentations on such a wide range of subjects, which is exactly what we wanted.”

Speakers covered topics such as nutrition, health, food safety, and supply chain and production challenges.

Solution not a problem

“It all kicked off with Celia Caulcott [director innovation and skills at the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council], and what was great about her opening speech was that she really set the scene by providing a little snippet of everything around food science,” Poole said.

“Her message was that food science is not a problem, but part of the solution to the problems that we face around food and food supply and sustainability.”

Watch this video to find out why Poole believed the conference offered something for everyone, regardless of if you work in science, research, industry or were just starting your career.

Also find out why Poole said it was “critical” to have a strong representation from young people at the start of their careers in the industry at the conference.
