2 Sisters boss Ranjit Singh, the Warburtons family and the Samworth have made it to the Sunday Times Rich List 2016.

The Warburton family was ranked at 220, down from 206 last year, with wealth reported to be £530M.

The family-owned baker is run by three cousins – Jonathan, the chairman, Ross and Brett. In 2014, it made £31.4M profit on £574M sales.

Warburtons best company

In March, Warburtons was the first food manufacturer to make the separate Sunday Times list of Top 25 Best Big Companies. The survey, which started in 2001, analysed the views of employees on eight key areas including: leadership and personal growth, while getting opinions about their bosses, working conditions and employer values.

Sir David Samworth and family, the owners of Leicester-based pie and pasty maker Samworth Brothers, which owned Ginsters and Dickinson & Morris, saw profits rise to £39.3M on £857.7M of sales in 2014.

Ranked at 252 in the listing, Samworth and family were reported to be worth £465M; dropping from 243 in last year’s list.

Even so, the family's wealth was reported to have risen by £10M since the last survey. The company was revealed by Channel 4 to be currently involved in a row about alleged cuts to pay and conditions in a big to offset the impact of the National Living Wage.

Its brand Ginsters recently won the coveted Supply chain initiative trophy at the industry Oscars – the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards.

Founder of Boparan Holdings

2 Sisters founder Ranjit and wife Baljinder come in at 267 and were worth £430M. The pair's wealth was said to have risen by £270M since the last survey.

Singh, the founder of Boparan Holdings, recently acquired Grove farms turkey business based in Monaghan, Ireland, in what was described as “a private deal”.

The 2 Sisters Food Group has long been on the expansion trail, with recent reports of a red meat joint venture deal with Northern Ireland meat producer Dunbia.

Topping the list as Britain’s richest are the Reuben brothers David and Simon, who operate a property and internet empire. This is the first time they have topped the list, up from number five last year, with a combined worth of £13.1bn, up by £3.4bn from last year.

The brothers were followed by Sri and Gopi Hinduja, with wealth of £13bn, who run the global conglomerate Hinduja Group.

In third place was Len Blavatnik, who has investments in music and media, with a wealth of £11.59bn.
