Dragons’ Den winner Barenaked Foods has clinched a deal to supply 400 Morrisons stores with its range of low-carb, gluten-free products, securing a thumbs up from the retailer’s grocery buyer.

Barenaked noodles shot to popularity following a dramatic pitch on the BBC show Dragons’ Den from Barenaked Foods’s md Ross Mendham that secured a £60,000 investment from entrepreneur Peter Jones as business partner.

The noodles are made using the Asian-grown Konjac plant, which is low in carbohydrates, sugar and calories. Containing only eight calories per 100g, they can be used as a replacement in meals for carbohydrates such as pasta and noodles.

Dietary needs

Mendham said landing a major supermarket deal had been his goal since he first developed the product in 2011 while looking for an answer to his weight loss and dietary needs.

“We are delighted that Morrisons are stocking our original low-carb, gluten-free noodles on its international foods aisles,” said Mendham. He said the product was aimed at shoppers looking to manage their weight, consumers with restricted diets, such as coeliacs and diabetics or people looking for an alternative to heavier pasta or noodles.

Andrew Thomas, grocery buyer at Morrisons, said: “Barenaked noodles help our customers lead healthier lifestyles, while also giving them a great tasting alternative to pasta and noodles.

‘Rightly impressed’

“Ross’s product rightly impressed the dragons on Dragons’ Den and our customers can now benefit from buying the popular Barenaked Foods original noodles from nearly 400 Morrisons supermarkets nationwide.”

Barenaked Foods has recently expanded its noodles range to include protein and rice versions, which are also available for order from the firm’s website. Barenaked Noodles are available to buy in Morrisons stores nationwide at £1.99 for 250g packs.
