A leading food and drink industry boss has slammed criticism of the sector’s record on curbing sugar levels voiced by the chief executive of the National Health Service England (NHS).
Stigma surrounding low calorie sweeteners (LCSs) must be stamped out if the obesity and diabetes epidemic in Europe is to be tackled, leading nutritionists have said.
Many British consumers still regard sweeteners with suspicion, although in practice, very few actively avoid products that contain them, according to research commissioned by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF).
