The demand for plant-based products continues as two new launches hit the market from Finnebrogue Artisan and Richmond.

Finnebrogue Artisan, the manufacturer behind Naked Bacon – the nitrite free bacon brand – has launched a plant-based bacon line. 

While, Richmond, the Kerry owned brand,  has expanded into meat-free burgers following the success of its meat-free sausages. 

The launches come as earlier this year the global plant-based meat alternatives ​market was expected to hit US$3.6bn in value this year and increase to $4.2bn in 2021. 

Recently, Mintel research showed that vegan diets became more attractive​ to consumers during the Covid-19 pandemic. 

 Finnebrogue Artisan has launched its Naked ‘Without the Oink’ rashers, which are high in protein and a source of fibre, B12, zinc and iron, in 600 Tesco stores. 

It joins the Naked plant-based range launched earlier this summer which includes Naked ‘Without the Moo’ mince, meatballs and burgers and Naked ‘Without the Oink’ sausages.  

Finnebrough said it launched the plant-based food range to target flexitarians​.  

Denis Lynn, chairman of Finnebrogue, said: “We looked at what was wrong with the plant-based bacon products already on supermarket shelves in order to figure out how to make our plant-based bacon the best it can be.

“There really is nothing like the taste and smell of proper bacon - but these delicious rashers are made without the oink so absolutely everyone can be part of that special bacon eating experience.”

As well as Naked “Without the Oink” Bacon, Tesco will be listing additive-free Naked pork sausages for the first time and four new Naked ‘Veg & Proud’ lines that are each one of your five-a-day. 

The four new lines include Veg & Proud Spicy Bean Burger, Veg & Proud Beet Burger, Veg & Proud Caulimasala Sausages and Veg & Proud Smoky Red Pepper Sausage.

Meanwhile, Richmond which is know for its meat sausages, has launched Meat-free burgers to the market, which will be heading into the chilled aisle of shops this month.  The continued expansion of Richmond’s Meat-Free portfolio follows the successful launch of its Frozen Meat-Free Sausages. 

Victoria Southern, category & marketing director, at Kerry Foods said:  “Given the roaring success of our Meat-Free Sausages we’re really excited to be expanding our range even further to ensure we can cater to a whole variety of mealtime occasions and we’re confident our Meat-Free Burgers will be a hit with shoppers looking to moderate their meat intake and with those looking to try something new from the Richmond brand.”
