Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) is focusing on expanding its laboratory services after investing £700k in a new laboratory providing a suite of advanced 3D imaging and metrology services.

Situated at the University of Reading Whiteknights campus, the lab will support RSSL to meet the growing demand for high-precision imaging and measurement. It will mean it can help clients accelerate R&D, enhance quality control, and ensure regulatory compliance.

This lab joins its new analytical testing facility which opened at the same site at the end of 2023.

The new services include a combination of micro-CT, microscopy, and spectroscopy techniques to provide analyses of food products, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.

RSSL said it will be able to offer services throughout the entire product lifecycle, from supporting material characterisation and prototyping during product development to providing non-destructive quality analyses and accurate safety testing of complex products. They will also be able to support commercial manufacturing by helping to rapidly identify and resolve production challenges such as contamination and batch-to-batch inconsistency.

RSSL said that the new 3D imaging and metrology services use the latest state-of-the-art analytical equipment, operated by an experienced, multi-disciplinary team, to provide “dependable results and trusted insights”.

Jacinta George, managing director at RSSL, said: “At RSSL, we are committed to meeting the latest needs of our clients and driving cutting-edge research across our key sectors. By investing in our new imaging and metrology services, we are delivering on this to support innovations ranging from novel foods and sustainable packaging to precision medicines and medical devices.”

They added: “With this latest investment, we are also proud to be further expanding our laboratory footprint and service offering as part of our ambitious long-term growth strategy. This is central to enabling us to continue achieving our goal of supporting clients to help build a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future.”
