British halal food brand Takul has been acquired by European private equity investor Perwyn via its portfolio company Isla Délice.

Délice, a French market leader in branded halal meat products, hoped to use Takul’s existing relationships with British retailers to achieve greater distribution of its products and improve commercialisation of its range.

Heinz Holsten, partner at Perwyn and board member of Isla Délice said: “We at Isla Délice and Perwyn are delighted to bring the group’s longstanding FMCG halal expertise to the UK. The combination of Isla Délice’s rich halal heritage and its professional FMCG approach makes it well positioned to accelerate the halal consumer offering in the UK.”

Parallel launches

Perwyn said it would continue to support Takul in parallel to launching Isla Délice products in the UK, citing its partnership with Tesco as a prime example of this in practice – the supermarket’s portfolio features 40 SKUs from across both brands.

Stonehouse Foods director William Walter added: “We see Isla Délice and Perwyn as the ideal owners to give the Takul brand the support it needs through its next phase of growth.

“We believe their scale and knowledge of this market and consumer, and their commitment to invest in long term category growth, will allow them to build on the foundations we’ve built and provide a real step-change to not only to the Takul brand, but the category as a whole, with the addition of Isla Délice products in the UK.”

Existing markets

Takul was launched by Stonehouse Foods in 2022, securing initial listings in Tesco and Sainsbury’s. This acquisition adds the UK to Isla Délice’s existing core markets of France, Belgium and Spain.

Meanwhile, The Compleat Food Group has acquired speciality food producer Harvey & Brockless for an undisclosed sum, the latest in a string of acquisitions by the manufacturer this year.

Harvey & Brockless’ 500 strong team – and its purpose-built sauces and dips factory in Evesham, Worcestershire and bespoke assembled cheese solutions site in Battersea, London – join the Compleat family alongside the likes of Squeaky Bean and Wrights Food Group.
