Chilled pastry producer Addo Food Group is recruiting for more than 200 vacancies across its five sites to meet rising demand for fridge-staples since the pandemic.

The group, which was acquired alongside Winterbotham Darby by private equity firm PAI Partners in November 2020 has created a range of new part-time, full-time, temporary and permanent jobs. These include production and factory operatives, engineers, technical service managers, development chefs and technologists, executives and taste panel coordinators.

“We have kept the nation supplied with chilled pastry products over the past 16 months," said Deborah Bolton, chief executive of Addo Food Group. "And we have been working hard to produce our quality pastries, pasties and party food for major retailers – as well as manufacturing rolls and pies for our leading brands Wall’s Pastry and Pork Farms.

'Surge in sales'

“This recruitment drive will help to support our current employees with the surge in sales and there are a variety of positions available for people with all levels of experience, across our Nottingham, Shropshire, Dorset and Poole factories."

The company operates five sites. Nottingham-based Riverside Bakery supplies own-label chilled quiche, flans and savoury tarts. Tottle Bakery specialises in pork pie production and is one of only a small number of businesses situated within the PGI-designated Melton Mowbray pork pie region. Dorset Foods is a frying facility with expertise in scotch eggs, savoury eggs and bites and cooked cocktail sausages.

Palethorpes Bakery makes chilled savoury rolls, savoury hot pies, pasties and slices and the Poole Bakery site hosts three bakeries under one roof and is the home of the Wall’s Pastry brand of hot pies, pork pies, slices and rolls.

Full training provided

Experience within the food manufacturing industry was not essential, as full training would be provided for all roles, the company said.

In June, the business, which makes savoury quiches, pies, pasties, slices, scotch eggs, sausage rolls and pork pies for major retailers and employs 2,400 people, announced a rigorous commitment to climate change goals. It joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as a Business Ambition for 1.5°C signatory. As part of the sustainability strategy it set out to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.

Addo Food Group has established science-based targets across its whole value chain in line with limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5°C as set out by the Paris Agreement. Its targets will then be validated against the latest SBTi criteria and published online. The Business Ambition campaign is backed by a global coalition of UN leaders, business organisations and non-governmental organisations to help support the cause.

Addo Food Group won the Service Provider Partnership Award with operational improvement specialist Newton Europe at the 2021 Food Manufacture Excellence Awards. The 2022 awards are open for entries now, with a closing deadline of 6 September. Get your entry in now!
