Ingredients giant Tate & Lyle has announced the launch of Stabiliser University, an online learning programme for formulators and food scientists.

The first module of the course, entitled Stabiliser Fundamentals, will take place at 3pm UK time on Tuesday 13 April 2021. The free-to-register one-hour session will cover the basic principles of formulating with stabilisers, challenges stabilisers can solve in food and beverage formulations, and how manufacturing and processing can impact formulation choices.

Industry knowledge

I am thrilled we are launching the first of many Stabiliser University modules this month,” said Darrin Peterson, global head of stabilisation & functional systems at Tate & Lyle.

"This is an opportunity for our customers to gain better insights into, and understanding of, the complex nature of stabilisation and for Tate & Lyle to demonstrate industry-leading knowledge of this essential functionality in the food industry.”

The launch of the Stabiliser University follows three similar online courses from Tate & Lyle: Texture University, Sweetener University and Fibre University.

“Food science plays an essential role both when reformulating and developing new products to bring to market, which is why food technology matters,” said Veronica Cueva, senior vice president, Food & Beverage Solutions Global Technology at Tate & Lyle. “Stabiliser University is another tool to help our customers on the journey.”

Equity lead appointment

Meanwhile, Tate & Lyle has appointed Lauren von Stackelberg (pictured) as its new chief equity, diversity & inclusion officer.

Von Stackelberg will take up the role on 19 April and will lead the company’s equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) strategy to ‘create a truly inclusive culture and workforce’, the company said.

Having recently worked for Expedia Group as global head of inclusion & diversity, Von Stackelberg has experience in a range of sectors including technology and financial services.

Nick Hampton, chief executive, said: “I am very excited to welcome Lauren to Tate & Lyle. She is a proven and compassionate leader of change. I look forward to working with her to build a culture where all people, regardless of their backgrounds, can be themselves and reach their full potential.”

Von Stackelberg said: “It is an honour to join Tate & Lyle to advance this meaningful work and to collaboratively catalyse change in our company, our industry and our world.”
