Sports nutrition business Applied Nutrition has launched its own brand of healthier sauces and syrups targeted at consumers in search of lower calorie options.

Fit Cuisine is the result of 12 months of research and development by the company and is available online and through sports nutrition stores worldwide. Applied Nutrition is in talks with several UK retailers to stock the new range.

Sauce flavours launched in the range included Tijuana Hot Sauce, Peri-Peri, Brown Sauce, Ketchup, Sweet Chilli and Chip Shop Curry. For the syrups, the company has started with Chocolate, White Chocolate, Salted Caramel and Strawberry.

More choice for consumers

Applied Nutrition managing director Thomas Ryder said “We noticed demand for lower calorie syrups and sauces from our existing customers, so we started to look into the space and were keen to bring our own brand to offer consumers more choice.

“Our existing retailers have been delighted with our new ‘Fit Cuisine’ range and demand for the first products has been outstanding. We have launched with six sauces and four syrups but already have a pipeline of new flavours & products ready to release to market over the coming months.”

In addition to the syrups and sauce products, Applied has launched ‘Flavo Drops’, a zero calorie flavour drop that can be added to food and drinks to offer a sweet flavour.

Sports nutrition success

Sports Nutrition companies have seen a significant level of success this past year, with start-ups garnering significant consumer and investor interest through crowdfunding sites.

Start-up Tribal Sports Nutrition netted £421k through Crowdcube fundraising, well over its original target of £250k set on 7 December – the cash target was met within four days of the pitch going live.

The brand said the achievement built on a successful launch in Sainsbury’s stores and a new listing by Whole Foods Market.

Meanwhile, healthy snacks manufacturer Grenade has been acquired by Mondelēz International, in a move enabling the snacking giant to further expand into the well-being sector.
